Learn the art and science of insect pinning and illustration in this hands-on weekend workshop focused on Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths). Participants will be introduced to ethical specimen sourcing, proper spreading and mounting techniques, and basic preservation practices used in both scientific and artistic contexts. Each student will work from a selection of ethically sourced butterflies or moths and leave with their own beautifully pinned specimen and shadow box, suitable for display and study.
Once students complete their pinning, they will then learn how to use their display to draw and paint the subject in ink and watercolor.
