This course is devoted to the quiet and meditative study of nature findings through drawing and watercolor, balancing scientific clarity with artistic sensitivity. Students will contemplate interesting ideas through observational techniques and render journal entries of the botanical forms with precision and character. Emphasis will be placed on how to keep a nature journal practice, gathering information to build studies, capturing details, clean line work, and controlled watercolor washes to create beautiful botanical works. By the end of the course, students will complete a collection of nature observations that reflect a quiet reverence for our findings, feel inspired to continue this sensitive practice of keeping a nature journal, and learn how to use these studies to work from to create more traditional botanical artworks.

Ghosthouse will provide students with a sketchbook, but you are free to also bring your own journal to add work to or use un-bound drawing and watercolor paper provided.
