A focused course in three-dimensional anatomical study, dedicated entirely to one of the most expressive and technically demanding forms in figurative art: the human hand. Students build in clay from direct observation, working through the underlying bone and muscle structure before layering in surface form, gesture, and expression. Emphasis is placed on proportion, joint mechanics, and the subtle asymmetries that give a sculpted hand life rather than stiffness. No prior sculpture experience required, this class is equally valuable as a standalone study or as preparation for full-figure sculptural work.
