In this four-week course, students will learn how to develop compelling, fully realized character illustrations through the practiced process of ideation, sketching, and oil painting.

Whether inventing an original figure or interpreting a literary icon, students will explore how to gather reference and convey personality, story, and mood through pose, costume, expression, and setting. The course covers visual development, compositional thumbnails, value studies, and final painting techniques rooted in academic oil practices.
